Case 01Problem
A Turkish apparel manufacturer with a multi-tier supplier base was under annual audit pressure from major European retail brands for SA8000 and BSCI compliance. Tier-1 factories were passing audits, but Tier-2 visibility (fabric, yarn) and seasonal labour capacity were warning signs. In the same period, the 2021 summer floods and the 2022 energy crisis showed that the organisation's operational resilience muscle also needed to be tested.
Approach
Approach — A 9-month, three-module programme
Running social-audit discipline and resilience planning in the same programme; we aligned the two teams' vocabularies around shared cases.
HRDD mapping (under UNGP)
Saliency analysis for Tier-1 + Tier-2 + seasonal labour; the five most critical human rights risks were prioritised.
Supplier code of conduct + audit programme
Protocol aligned with SA8000 and Sedex SMETA; pre-audit and corrective action plan for 18 factories.
Business Impact Analysis (BIA) + climate scenario testing
Assessment of production, logistics and worker safety under flood, heat wave and power outage scenarios; RTO/RPO thresholds.
